My family and friends significantly contributed to my academic success. They helped and motivated me in many ways and it is why I have been successful. I was always able to find a quiet place to study somewhere in my house. Studying and doing homework was always encouraged. Also, finding the time to study was not much of a problem. My parents, sister, and brother all graduated from college and I have always known that I wanted to do the same. Ever since I was little, school has been an important aspect of my life.

My mom is also a teacher and this has driven me to do well in school. She enjoys teaching her students and it is important to her that they succeed and that her own children succeed too. Throughout high school I would go to her classroom to meet her 2nd grade students and to see what it is like. Witnessing teaching and school from a different point of view made me more comfortable with my teachers. Seeing all the effort that teachers put into their classroom made me more open and appreciate the teachers at my school more.

My parents have always expected me to do well in school, which prompted me to set goals for myself. In elementary school, middle school, and even high school my parents would ask me if I did my homework and made sure I studied for all my tests and quizzes. I always attended school unless I was sick. My friends also had parents that had similar expectations. They needed to do well in school and attend every day. My parents would reward me for good grades and keep me motivated throughout school. I was brought up valuing education and knowing that I needed to graduate from college.

Since my friends and I knew that school was one of our top priorities in our life, we tried making it more fun. We all were aware that we needed to graduate from high school and would need to graduate from college in order to have a successful career. We encouraged each other by forming study groups and doing homework together after school. We also supported each other during school hours to help each other get through the day and stay focused on what we needed to do. If one of us was having a tough time with one of our classes, we would help each other out.

I am very thankful for the support of my family and friends. Growing up knowing what my family expected of me has helped me be able to choose to go this far with my education. In my group of family, friends, and community it is customary to attend school, graduate, and get a job. Not everyone loves going to school, but it is something you have to do. In the future it will help will a job, which will then help you be able to support yourself and your family. Education is vital and plays a role in having a successful and happy life.
